Happy New Year!
Enjoy this exert from President Don Lackner's New Years Letter:
"Based on some of our accomplishments of 2025, the new year looks promising. Most importantly, the stopping of the Mexican Grey Wolf reintroduction in Cochise and Graham counties should greatly reduce the would-be attacks on our livestock and non-predatory wildlife populations. At the July 2025 ACGA convention, the Arizona-New Mexico Coalition of Counties (a non-partisan organization) recognized Cochise-Graham Cattle Growers for their diligent work in halting this devastating program. My thanks to our wolf committee, our BOD and our members for their support of our efforts. Thank you to the Klump family for the use of their billboard which served as a continuing reminder to thousands of I-10 motorist that wolf reintroduction was a bad idea. We appreciate our Graham & Cochise County Board of Supervisors for hearing us and considering our resolutions. Also, our thanks and gratitude to Sheriff Dannels and Sheriff Allred for their ongoing support for our industry.

The good thing about 2025 was the higher beef prices, but with the value of cattle going up, cattle rustling went up too. If these people put half as much effort into a real job, they’d be rich, though that isn’t likely to happen, so our CGCGA Board started a vandalism/theft reward program and is offering up to $2500.00 for information leading to the arrest or conviction of illegal activity and/or criminal acts against livestock or property. This program is for CGCGA members. To cover the cost, we are asking for $40.00 per sign which will also aid in funding the reward money. All new members will receive a free sign (sign pictured at right).

In planning for 2026, I feel some optimism regarding our industry. The current Administration in Washington is wanting to stop government overreach and excessive regulations in portions of farming and ranching. This will likely bring relief to all of us. Just as important is the strong and ongoing support we have from our state and local officials. We have a strong CGCGA organization as well. Please reach out to me or any of the BOD if you have questions or concerns."
